The Ombudsman's task is to act as a "mediator" or informal arbitrator and he/she does not represent either of the parties to the dispute.
  • The service is free to insured consumers;
  • You must complain to the insurance company first, and only if you are unable to resolve the dispute with your insurers, then you can refer the matter to our offices;
  • The Ombudsman's decisions are binding on the insurance company, but not on you.
  • You are not bound by any of our decisions and may instead proceed to court;
  • We are an independent office.
  • Our decisions can be based on either law or equity.
  • We do not give legal advice.
  • Only private individuals in respect of personal insurance can send their complaints to our offices. We do not deal with complaints from Companies.
