Price Index (CPI) & Key Findings: March 2018

The headline CPI (for all urban areas) annual inflation rate in March 2018 was 3.8%.
This rate was 0.2 of a percentage point lower than the corresponding annual rate of 4.0% in February 2018.
On average, prices increased by 0.4% between February 2018 and March 2018.
CPI Headline March 2018 = 3.8%.

Final manufactured goods – Headline PPI
The annual percentage change in the PPI for final manufactured goods was 4.2% in February 2018 (compared with 5.1% in January 2018). From January 2018 to February 2018 the PPI for final manufactured goods decreased by 0.3%.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The rand touched a record R17,9950/US1 on 11 January from R16,30/US$1 on 8 January 2016, R13,04/$1 on 19 October 2015 and R11,41/$1 on 4 February 2015.
- The JSE all share index ended 2015 at 50 693,76, down 8,1% on the 24 April peak of 55 188,337.
- The African National Congress (ANC) 8 January statement put local government at “the apex of priorities.”
- The national matriculation pass rate slipped to 70,7% in 2015 from 75,8% in 2014 and 78,2% in 2013.
- Bulk export volumes rose by 7,3% in 2015 to a record 168 million tons (Mt) after only a 2,6% gain in 2014 and a 2,8% rise in 2013.
