The Ombudsman's task is to act as a "mediator" or informal arbitrator and he/she does not represent either of the parties to the dispute.
- The service is free to insured consumers;
- You must complain to the insurance company first, and only if you are unable to resolve the dispute with your insurers, then you can refer the matter to our offices;
- The Ombudsman's decisions are binding on the insurance company, but not on you.
- You are not bound by any of our decisions and may instead proceed to court;
- We are an independent office.
- Our decisions can be based on either law or equity.
- We do not give legal advice.
- Only private individuals in respect of personal insurance can send their complaints to our offices. We do not deal with complaints from Companies.
